St Johnstone have signed former Millwall and Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris until the end of the season.
Saints manager Derek McInnes played alongside the 29-year-old, and said he would bring experience to the squad at McDiarmid Park.
"He has had a frustrating time of it this season," said McInnes.
"I was delighted to offer him the chance to come up to Perth. I saw him at first-hand at Millwall and he did nothing but impress me."
Morris looked to have secured moves to either Charlton or MK Dons, but McInnes invited him to train with Saints when those moves collapsed.
"He did a pre-season with Charlton Athletic and it looked like they were going to take him on but they changed their mind at the last minute," said the Saints manager.
"He had a similar arrangement with MK Dons which also fell through.
"Jody just needs a wee break to get back into the game and hopefully we can give him that."
Morris could feature in Saturday's First Division match away to Dundee, McInnes added.
He made 65 league appearances for Millwall after joining the Lions from Rotherham in 2004, but was released by the London club in June last year.

Saints have this afternoon secured the services until the end of the season of former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris.
Derek McInnes had hoped to keep the arrival for a trial of the former Under 21 England international under wraps and was frustrated that the media picked up on the story but is now delighted to have secured the services of a player he feels can be a real asset to the club.
Derek said, “I played with Jody at Millwall and have nothing but the highest regard for him. He has had a frustrating time of it this season – he did a pre-season with Charlton Athletic and it looked like they were going to take him on but they changed their mind at the last minute. He had a similar arrangement with MK Dons which also fell through and so I was delighted to offer him the chance to come up to Perth.
“The plan was that Jody would have a few days with us so that I could assess him before making any move – I’ve now had the chance to do that and I’m delighted we have managed to sign him today.”
29 year old Morris spent eight years at Stamford Bridge and gained seven Under 21 caps for England before spells with Leeds United and Rotherham United ahead of a move to Millwall where he made a significant impact before a cheekbone injury and cruciate ligament problems intervened.
McInnes continued, “I saw him at first hand at Millwall and he did nothing but impress me. He just needs a wee break to get back into the game and hopefully we can give him that. It is not about finances – Jody has given me a bit commitment to come here. His wife is heavily pregnant and although I have offered him the chance to take an extra day off each week so he can spend enough time at home he has turned that down as he doesn’t want to miss out on any aspect of what we do here. This arrangement helps, me, the club and the player and is very positive for everyone.
“He is a naturally fit guy and all he needs now is to gain some match sharpness – I have not ruled out the possibility of that starting on Saturday at Dens, particularly given our current injury situation.”
